I signed up for Feedlounge yesterday and it rawks!
Yes it costs £2.99/month or something but that’s just like one less kebab a week month (kebabs aren’t that cheap!!)…or something 
The interface is nice, and I can pretty much replicate bloglines…well the good bits! I’d like to see a few more possibilities for user options/customisation in the display but I’m sure those sort of things will come as it matures.
For now i’m very happy.

Bloglines is dead? Hmm - good luck with your $5 p/m service. BL works for me just fine and I’ve a host of free desktop alternatives if it ever dies. Sure, I know not everything can be free, but I would think very carefully before paying an ongoing fee for a web-based service. But that’s just me
It’s hyperbole
I understand that some people don’t want to pay on “ongoing fee for a web-based service” but in my experience if you don’t pay you often end up with unreliable or filled with advertising services. I pay for webhosting for instance.
A desktop alternative would obviously be far superior performance and reliability wise, but I do my feedreading at work and I don’t have that option, plus the obvious problems of synchronisation of unread items. In my Feedlounge today I have 1847 unread items I don’t want to have to work out what I have and haven’t read when I switch PC’s.
I can’t say I really understand when people have on objection to paying for any services online. I’m not one to throw money around at webservices. I haven’t got a flickr pro account etc. etc. Bandwidth costs money, servers cost money, people’s time costs money.
How do you get your domain name for your blog? Unless someone else payed for it, or it’s being subsidised in some other way, I’m guessing you’re paying an ongoing fee for a web-based service.
In the end it comes down to value rather than cost. If you won’t pay for anything you end up with hosting at geocities with a matching url.
Feedlounge provides an innovative service and because it’s a two man startup is flexible enough to respond fairly instantly to problems, suggestions etc. This isn’t a religious issue. If bloglines moves forward, I haven’t deleted my account, I can stop the FL payments at any time. If http://www.bloxor.com/ matures rapidly that could replace both of them.
