Kelkoo doesn’t suck quite as much as i thought

Ok…the title may be slightly inflammatory and exaggerated…possibly… things like this annoy me though (who would have known?)

But Kelkoo is irritating me. Ignorance is a reasonable excuse for a problem with the prices on your price comparison site.

If you’re not ignorant, what’s the excuse?

I’d quite like a Canon 20D.

So I check the price on Kelkoo reasonably often..

Now in December, Canon (not a retailer) were running a rebate scheme on the 20D. £100 cashback. Good deal. Suddenly all the stores Kelkoo searched were showing prices £100 less. Even though you still have to pay the full price and claim the £100 back from Canon. That I can cope with, although I do find it slightly dishonest…but retailers will be retailers!

Fast-forward to January 16th, over two weeks after the rebate offer expired. All of the retailers prices have changed back to the normal price…on their sites.

Kelkoo?

Still showing the rebated price. Which gives a ridiculously inaccurate price comparison search. I filled out Kelkoo’s feedback from last week to alert them to the problem with this search…

No response, no action.

So yeah, I may be petty and it’s really not a big issue, but when Kelkoo (Part of the wonderful Yahoo family)’s primary (sole?) purpose for existence is price comparison, you’d hope they’d get it right, and when they don’t…at least fix it when they’re told it’s wrong!

Update:-
Ok looking at other price comparison sites they have the same problem. The point still stands, if you allow retailers to send you bogus/incorrect information on prices, what use is the service?

Update 18/01/06 :-

Just recieved an email from Kelkoo

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for contacting Kelkoo with your enquiry.

We use our best endeavours to provide reliable and accurate present price
and product information from retailers.

I’m very sorry that you have found one of the few examples of pricing
discrepancies on our website - we take these seriously and look into any
reported.

Thank you again for your email as we do appreciate your feedback.

Kind Regards,

Farzana Irani
Kelkoo.co.uk

So that’s a positive if slightly more delayed response.

Ok scratch that, I may have overreacted slightly. The rebate is still in force. It’s a joke that stores can advertise a rebated price (a rebate they have nothing to do with) to price comparison sites, and I still think it’s a problem for the price comparison sites to address but Kelkoo doesn’t suck all that much after all…
